Enter Stage Write: Preston
Enter Stage Write: Preston - course complete...
Tutored by leading theatre practitioners, Linda Brogan, Cheryl Martin & Bill Hopkinson, ENTER STAGE WRITE: Preston culminated in a full workshop day on 10th July.
All 8 participants, who embarked on the 8 week course after writing 2-3 pages of dialogue incorporating three characters and a single wellington boot, generated an original script for the stage (no wellington boots in sight). Each writer, with guidance from lead-tutor Linda Brogan, undertook their own personal journey from first concept, to first and second draft, to seeing their work performed by professional actors. Here's what some of them had to say about the course:
It made you
feel like a proper writer - You were treated like you were doing this because
you had talent - not because you were a deluded fool - Each week brought a
different challenge and opened up new ways of looking at your writing and how
you approached that blank piece of paper. It challenged you every week and
demanded that you take your writing as seriously and professionally as those
instructing you
I am amazed
at the quality of this course for so little cost. NW playwrights is an absolute
diamond mine. I will be using the script reading service again and again and
will recommend this course to everyone I know.
The
feedback and plan of action I received from Linda was a turning point for me, I
feel this is the moment that I took the first step towards finding my voice as
a writer. Up until now I've been flailing around sounding like a poor imitation
of all the other plays/TV series/films I've ever seen. Now I feel I have found
something that expresses something true to me; the voice is raw, ugly and I'm
not sure I like the sound of it yet. But it's a start. Linda helped me find it.
A pivotal moment for me.
Bill
Hopkinson's sessions were just right - absolutely challenging and also profound
and inspirational.
It has made a difference and helped me to find my own style, it has given me more confidence. I also felt that meeting the others involved was a wonderful experience.
