Tutor profile: Kevin Dyer

Kevin Dyer has just been awarded the Writers’
Guild Award for ‘Best Play for Children and Young People’ for his
play ‘The Monster Under The Bed. (It was also shortlisted for the
Brian Way and John Whiting Awards in 2009.)
He is the Associate Writer for Action
Transport Theatre where he writes plays, hosts writing sessions,
works as a dramaturg, and runs collective-writing processes. He’s
also Associate Artist at The Dukes in Lancaster both writing and
directing there.
He received a Writers’ Guild
Encouragemant Award in 2009.
He has been commissioned to write over
50 plays for theatre companies in the UK.
He is chair of judges for the Anne
Pierson Award; a published poet; an ex-magazine and newspaper
journalist; and an actor and director. He’s an assessor for Arts
Council England.
His plays ‘The Bomb’ (based on
meetings with Jo Berry whose father was killed in the Brighton
bombing and Pat Magee who planted the bomb) and ‘The Monster Under
the Bed’ are published by Aurora books.
He’s currently writing The Dukes’
large-scale summer outdoor play ‘Merlin’; a play for BBC Radio
Four; ‘The Bridge’ for Dundee Rep; and ‘the Girl who lives
under the Piano’ – an international play with Iranian and British
actors.
And his play ‘Minotaur’,
commissioned by the Kennedy Center, Washington, is being developed by
the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre in Toronto.
